As a parent/guardian of a Christa McAuliffe student, what responisbilities am I required to fulfill?

• Each family is required to fulfill 30 hours per school year.

 

If I have multiple children within the Cape Coral Charter School Authority, am I required to fulfill 30 hours per child?

• No.  The hours requirement is calculated on a 'family' basis.  If you have another child within the Cape Coral Charter School Authority (including Christa McAuliffe Elementary, Oasis Elementary, Oasis Middle, and Oasis High) your commitment remains at 30 hours per school year.

 

Do my husband and I each have to fulfill the 30-hour requirement, for a total of 60 hours per school year?

• No,  The hours requirement is calculated a a family level and is 30 per school year.

 

Both my husband and I work fulltime and are not available during regular school hours to get involved.  What can we do to fulfill our responsibility?

There are a number of ways to get involved outside of regular school hours.  Such activites include take-home projects, attending PTO Meetings, and suporting after-hours school events and activities.  Please refer to our monthly Help Wanted Ads for these opportunities.

 

Do I earn involvement hours by donating money or items to the school?

• Generally, no.  If a donation qualifies for parent involvement hours, it will be specifically noted within the event communication.  If it is not noted, then it does not qualify.

 

My child entered the school system mid-year.  Am I still required to fulfill 30 parent involvement hours?

• No.  The opportunity to be involved starts when the student enters the school system.  To address mid-year additions, the school gives the parent a credit of 3 hours per month that has passed since the child entered the school sytem.

 

How are involvement hours tracked for the school year?

• During school hours: 
  • All volunteers must sign in and out at the office. 
  • You will automatically receive credit for involvement hours through this system.
  • Failure to sign-out means you will not receive your credit hours! 
    • If you are leaving the school after hours, please turn your name badge in to the teacher or person responsible for the activity and record your sign-out time on it.  They will then turn in to the Parent Involvement Coordinator to manually enter your sign out time.
• Outside of school hours: 
  •  Any work done at home or outside of school hours must be pre-authorized by a teacher or event leader.  They will tell you the amount of volunteer time allocated for completion of the project and will be responsible for turning in a signed form to the Parent Involvement Coordinator to manually record your hours.

How do I know how many hours I have completed?

• If you have any questions regarding your involvement hours, please submit an email to cme.pic@capecharterschools.org.

 

What if the involvement hours I completed are not correct in the system?

• If you do not feel your hours are correct, please submit an email request to cme.pic@capecharterschools.org.  The Parent Involvement Coordinators will work with you to resolve the discrepancy.

 

My name is not appearing in the school check-in system.  Why?

• Only those people who have received background clearance to volunteer within the school system will be eligible to sign in at the kiosk. 
• Questions regarding the status of a background clearance application should be sent to cme.pic@capecharterschools.org.

 

What happens if I do not complete my parent involvement hours commitment?

• The school offeres the option for parents to puchase up to 10 hours at a cost of $10 per hour to fill the gap.  If a family does not complete this fulfillment, the student's seat will be jeopardized for the next school year.

 

As a parent of a VPK student, am I required to fulfill 30 Parent Involvement Hours annually?

• No.  However, any hours you do perform should be submitted for tracking purposes.  Additionally, if you have other students within the Cape Charter School Authority, any volunteer hours you perform for your VPK student will be applied toward your 30-hour-per-year requirement.  And any of these volunteer hours performed will qualify you for involvement in the end-of-year Parent Involvement celebration, so remember to record your hours!
