Students are placed after a referral by the regular education teacher and testing by a psychologist and a disability is determined. After the students are tested by the psychologists the psychologist then writes up a report that includes her findings. After he or she is done with their report we set up a staffing with the parent, general education teacher, ESE teacher, staffing specialist from the county, school psychologist, guidance counselor (if necessary) and principal if necessary. At the time of the meeting the psychologist will report her findings to everyone present at the meeting. If the child has a learning disability that is found by the psychologist we then make an IEP to determine goals for the student. The IEP team includes the child's parents, teacher, and school district representative. Once the IEP is written myself and the student's teacher work on these goals to get the student up to par with the rest of the class.

Mr. Joe Pace		Hi, my name is Joe Pace and to date I am the newest member of the Christa McAuliffe team. I am both honored and thrilled to be working with such an exceptional group of educators.  I started in December 2009 and am the Exceptional Student Education coordinator. I come to you with 15 years of teaching experience.  I moved to Cape Coral from Cleveland Ohio in 2002 and was a teacher for Charter Schools USA and Lee County Schools.  I have a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and am certified to teach; ESE- kindergarten to12th grade, English- grades 6 to 12, Elementary Education- kindergarten to grade 5, and Educational Leadership - all levels.  When I’m not at school I love being with my pets, of which there are many, and working in my yard. I look forward to meeting and working with each and every one of you.
