Welcome to First Grade!!

Our goal is to ensure that your child receives an excellent and well balanced Core Knowledge education. We will provide your child with a safe and inviting learning environment by fostering a sense of community and fellowship among the students and by always treating your child with love and respect.

CMCE is proud to be a Core Knowledge school that implements a curriculum rich in Science, Social Studies and the Arts. We are proud to utilize an integrative approach across the various subject areas. In first grade, we will explore many topics ranging from ancient civilizations through American history. In Science, we study the solar system, our world, and living things in our environment. We use differentiated education to address all our students' needs and strive for each child to do their personal best.

Ms. Susan Coward		My name is Sue Coward and this is my fourth year teaching 1st grade here at CME. I am a Southwest Florida native, born and raised here. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education K-6 and a Master's degree in Reading Education from Florida Gulf Coast University. In the next few years, I plan to further my education by working toward earning my National Board Certification. I feel so fortunate to be a part of this wonderful school because the administration, staff, students, and parents are the best in the county! Mrs. Nicole Erol		My name is Nicole Erol and this is my 3nd year teaching 1st grade here at CMCE. Originally from Wisconsin, I have lived in Florida for over 8 years. I graduated from the University of Central Florida. I have a wonderful husband and we are blessed with one son. Mrs. Diane Fenton		I graduated with a BS in Elementary Education from Central Connecticut State University and a Masters Degree in Elementary Curriculum from University of South Florida in Tampa. I have taught in middle school - grades 8 and 9- Physics, Chemistry and Earth Science in Stratford, CT. I have also taught grades 4 and 5 in Sarasota, Florida. I worked in Canterbury School with kindergarten, and substituted with Lee County prior to working here at Christa McAuliffe. As a substitute, I was an open end first grade teacher at Veteran's Academy for the Arts in Lehigh Acres. This is my fourth year teaching first grade at Christa McAuliffe. Mrs. Mandy Rice		Hi, I am Mandy Rice, and I LOVE teaching! I have been teaching here at Christa McAuliffe since the doors opened. I am proud to be part of such a wonderful family! I have taught kindergarten for 4 years, prior to that I worked as a preschool teacher for 5 years. This will be my first year teaching 1st grade and I am very excited. I am a Florida native, and have earned both my Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from Hodges University. I am certified in Primary Education (ages 3-3rd grade), and have a wide range of early childhood trainings, including a Florida Director's Credential for childcare.

Mrs. Amy Ursitti		I am a graduate of Florida State University with a Bachelor's degree in Child Development and a Master's degree in Child, Family, and Consumer Sciences. I later attended the University of South Florida where I completed my coursework in Elementary Education. I have twenty years experience working with school age children in recreational and educational settings. My husband and I have been married for seventeen years and have two children, Stephanie and Alex. Mrs. LeeAnn Smith		I am a graduate of Barry University with a Master's degree in Reading K-12. This is my 4th year here at Christa McAuliffe. I taught 2nd grade for three years and now 1st grade this year. I absolutely love teaching young children to read and intoducing them to many exciting books! I have a collection of over 800 books in my classroom. I have a wonderful husband of 21 years and we are blessed with two beautiful daughters ages 13 and 19. Mrs. Joana Fiore Teachers Assistant		Hello, I'm Joana Fiore and this is my fourth year as a teachers assistant with CMCE. I am thrilled to be part of the 1st grade team. I'm originally from Brazil where I taught English as a second language for 4 years. I have lived in Cape Coral for 13 years and have proudly been an American Citizen since 2002. I received a degree in Education in Brazil at the College of Philosophy, Science and Literature of Valenca. I majored in English and Portuguese and minored in Brazilian Literature. I am married and have a son and a daughter that attend CMCE. I enjoy traveling, biking, and spending time with my family.
