Welcome to Fourth Grade!

Students will experience many new challenges as a part of our curriculum and our goal is to do whatever possible to help them succeed in all areas. We use the Treasures reading curriculum and meet daily in smaller Guided Reading groups to provide enrichment for students. We also use the Voyages Math Curriculum, which is challenging, but offers a hands-on approach to math. Our Social Studies and Science topics include: Europe in the Middle Ages; The American Revolution; African Kingdoms; Plant and Animal Cells; Electricity and Magnetism; and Meteorology. Through all of these topics and more, students are exposed to the various types of writing used to express themselves from journals and letter writing to personal narratives and persuasive essays. It truly is an amazing year.

Mrs. Dawn Combs		I am a graduate of the University of Florida (go Gators!) with a bachelor's degree in telecommunication/journalism. I later attended Florida Gulf Coast University, where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. This is my first year as a teacher at Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary -- but no stranger to these classrooms -- as I have been a substitute teacher here for three years! I have been married for 10 years and have two children who both attend our wonderful school. I am very close with my family. I enjoy watching a variety of sports, like working jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with my family and friends. Ms. Kristen Hall		I graduated from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island in 2004. I moved to Cape Coral in 2006 from Massachusetts. This is my third year teaching at Christa McAuliffe.

Mr. Mathew Halstead		My name is Mathew Halstead. I went to State Univ. of NY at New Paltz where I majored in both Psychology and Philosophy. I taught English in Japan for a little over 6 years. This is my fourth year of teaching in an Elementary school. Mrs. Melissa Downey		My name is Melissa Downey, I have a degree in elementary education from the University of Central Florida. I have taught for six years and this is my first year here at Christa McAuliffe. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade before and love working with children. I have two young sons, and my favorite hobby is reading. I look forward to a wonderful year working with you and your child.
