The Facility:
Our school was opened in August, 2006, and is built for 600 students grades K-5. We have added two portable classrooms for the VPK program that are fully integrated with all of our technology and communication. The facility is secure all day, with the office door being the only point of entry for the public. First class security cameras operate 24/7 in our halls and outside the structure. Clearance for the public and parents is done through a School Check-in kiosk at the front desk, and name badges for admittance are printed there. All employees and parent volunteers are background checked. The neighboring Jim Jeffers Park next door is a wonderful resource that we use for P.E. classes and Friday afternoon special recess.

The Staff:
Our staff are all certified to teach, and many have master’s degrees. Their bios will attest to the fine colleges that they have attended for their education. We also have several National Board Certified teachers. The staff are loving and caring, and treat each child with dignity and respect.

Curriculum:
The school uses a combination of the Core Knowledge Curriculum (http://www.coreknowledge.org/CK/about/index.htm) and local school district curriculum in order to give students the best education. For reading, we use the McGraw-Hill “Treasures” basal series, along with Spalding Phonics, Accelerated Reader, and Guided Reading strategies. The math curriculum is “Voyages”, which is a challenging curriculum that requires students to sharpen their thinking skills. Each grade level holds Core Knowledge culminating events after units of study such as: 1st grade guest “Mummy”; Greek Festival at 2nd grade; 3rd grade Roman “battle”; and 5th grade Renaissance Faire.

Parent Involvement:
It is a requirement that each family spend 30 hours of parent involvement time at our school during the year. Research clearly shows that when parents value and support education, the children achieve at a higher rate. We have a multitude of opportunities to become involved, as this school is a family-oriented school with fun activities at school throughout the year.

Technology:
The school has the latest in technology, including 5 networked computers in each classroom; a Smartboard (77” interactive white board computer) in each class along with a digital docucam that projects anything placed under it onto the Smartboard); a full mobile laptop lab with 23 Dell netbooks and SMART Response wireless remotes that students “click” when answering a question giving the teacher immediate feedback that can be graphed on the Smartboards. Christa McAuliffe Elementary posses a new state of the art, "live" production TV studio, which students produce high quality morning news broadcasts to the entire campus aired on the school's internal TV channel. The studio consists of professional studio cameras, lighting, chroma-key wall and a news desk. A separate room houses master control with audio and video mixer equipment, DVD decks and Newtek Tri-Caster computer equipment.

Uniforms:
Our school believes that students need to dress like they are coming to work, just like their parents dress up for their work. Our uniforms are easy on the budget, and consist of red, white, or navy polo shirts with our school logo (purchased at school through the P.T.O. for a very reasonable price), and khaki or navy bottoms in a variety of styles that can be purchased at any store.

Activities:
The school has a wonderful P.T.O. (The CME PTO Website: http://www.cme-pto.com/) that sponsors many activities throughout the year that bring parents and families together at school for fellowship and fun. The P.T.O. sponsors “enrichment classes” after school during two months of the year that give students an opportunity to learn about interesting subjects such as cooking, flyfishing, languages, etc. We also have after school dances for the upper grades, skate nights at the local rink, and a Halloween parade. The Young Astronauts’ Club sponsors family movie nights with an out-of-the-world theme, and there are numerous other groups that may offer evening or weekend events at school. At the end of each school year we host a celebration to say a big thank you to all our families who made parent involvement a priority in their lives.
