WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE

The third grade team would like to welcome you to our school and to our grade. Third grade can be a very challenging and fun experience for everyone. The students are introduced to a lot of material over the year and we hope you will enjoy hearing about it at home.

Third grade mixes our reading curriculum with guided reading to reach every student on their level. Students learn which books are right for reading at home. We use the Voyages math program to challenge the students to use higher-order thinking skills. In History, we study topics such as Ancient Rome, 13 Colonies, and Earliest Americans. In Science, we cover Animal Classifications, Space, and Human Body; as well as participating in the Science Fair. Students read and practice their math facts both in and out of school.

We set high academic and behavioral expectations for our students. We expect each student to always do their personal best.

Mrs. Judy Aviles		Hello! My name is Judy Aviles and I graduated from William Paterson University in Montclair, New Jersey. Prior to teaching 3rd grade, I worked with the ESOL children here at Christa McAuliffe. My hope is to spread my passion for reading to my students. I enjoy spending time in our library each week, choosing books for them that are varied. In addition to my students, I am also blessed with two children of my own. Ms. Lauren Collins		Hello! My name is Lauren Collins, and I am a true Florida cracker! I graduated from Florida State University (GO NOLES!) and the FGCU Teacher Immersion Program. I hope to finish my Masters soon. I have been a teacher for five years, but this is my first year at Christa McAuliffe. I am SO excited to begin this journey here and get to know all of the wonderful families. My husband Cameron and I have two sons that are attending here also in 2nd grade and kindergarten. When I’m not teaching, I’m busy at home with my boys who love to play basketball, ride dirt bikes, and play Lego. I absolutely love to read, and hope to give that love to my students too. Ms. Casey Erny		Hello everybody! I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2006 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I received my Master’s Degree in Reading in May 2009. I have lived here in Cape Coral since 1996 after moving down from Buffalo, New York (GO BILLS!). I just moved into my first home and am very excited to start decorating! I have two wonderful cats, Buster and Taz, and volunteer regularly at the Animal Refuge Center in North Fort Myers. I absolutely LOVE to read, line dance, and sing karaoke. This will be my fourth year teaching third grade at Christa McAuliffe, and there’s no place I would rather be. I am convinced this year will be the best yet! www.ernyteach.webs.com

Ms. Sherri Dahl		Hello! I am originally from Greenwood, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. I have called Florida home the past 15 years. I have a 11 year old daughter, Shelby, and a spoiled rotten springer spaniel named Cookie. I spend much of my free time involved with my daughter's soccer activities. We also enjoy finding shells at the beach, fishing, and going to the movies!

Mrs. Paula Lubovich		I was born in Rensselaer, Indiana and brought up on a farm. My hobbies include flower arranging, swimming, and travel. I’m a graduate of Indiana University and have 31 years of experience in the primary grades. Ms. Kristina Walls		Teaching has been a wonderful journey for me. This is my third year teaching here at Christa McAuliffe. I have two years of experience as a kindergarten teacher. Now, I am teaching third grade. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education through Oakland City University, Indiana. My life experiences have taken me through many cultures.
